WattCostCalc

How It Works

Three steps to find what anything costs to run.

  1. Find the watts. Look on the appliance label or pick the appliance from our list.
  2. Enter the hours. How long does it run per day? Use the quick buttons or type your own.
  3. Set your rate. Use the price per kWh from your bill, or choose your state or region.

Key terms

Watt (W): how much power an appliance uses at a moment in time.
Kilowatt-hour (kWh): 1,000 watts used for one hour. Your bill charges by kWh.
Rate: what you pay per kWh.

Example

A 1,500 W heater for 8 hours uses 1.5 × 8 = 12 kWh. At $0.175 per kWh that is $2.10 a day.
